Henk Claassen
Our director Henk Claassen is a seasoned Family and Property Law Attorney with more than 20 years’ experience. Holding an LL.B degree from Stellenbosch University, he has also done postgraduate studies in the fields of family law (divorce, child and international law) and corporate law to expand his knowledge in these practice areas.
He is a trained divorce mediator and has practised as a property conveyancer and notary public since his admission as an attorney in 2004. He has the right of appearance in the High Court and acts as a Commissioner in the Small Claims Court.
Jessica Swart
Associate Attorney
Jessica holds an LL.B degree from North-West University, Potchefstroom. After relocating to Cape Town, she gained valuable entrepreneurial experience before completing her articles in the northern suburbs of Cape Town, where she developed a strong foundation in legal practice.
Since joining Claassen Attorneys as an Associate Attorney, Jessica has gained significant experience across all aspects of family law, with a particular focus on divorces, custody disputes, parenting plans, antenuptial contracts, maintenance matters and protection orders. Her background in the business world, combined with her legal training, gives her a practical, client-centred approach to the often complex and emotionally charged situations her clients navigate.
Johan Wepener
Consultant Attorney
Johan Wepener brings an exceptional breadth of legal and judicial experience to the firm. He was appointed as a Magistrate on 11 November 1977 and served on the bench adjudicating criminal, civil and children’s court cases. Promoted through the ranks, he was appointed Chief Magistrate of Goodwood on 1 March 1993.
After resigning from the bench in July 1998, Johan was admitted as an Attorney in the High Court on 15 December 1999 and established Wepeners Attorneys, where he represented clients in criminal and civil matters as well as divorces. During the last decade of his practice he handled exclusively family law matters, including many divorces. He is formally trained as a mediator by FAMAC.
Johan joined Claassen Attorneys in August 2025 as Consultant Attorney, adding considerable depth and experience to our family law team.
Nadia Hyland
Legal Secretary & Office Administrator
Nadia brings more than 18 years of experience in legal secretarial work and office administration to the firm, having supported multiple directors across a wide range of practice areas. Her expertise spans daily litigation support, document preparation, case management and general administrative duties. Her professionalism and attention to detail are a cornerstone of the firm’s operations.
